U.S. News & World Report annually judges hospitals for its Best Hospitals list by rating high-quality patient care, commitment to patient safety, clinical resources, family centeredness and other measures. For 2024-25, the University of Michigan’s hospitals were named among the nation’s very best hospitals, including being ranked among the top 10 hospitals in the nation in three specialties, and nationally ranked in more specialties than any other Michigan hospital.
In December 2024, Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital received the highest maternity care recognition a hospital can earn from U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.
Magnet Status Designation
In 2017 and again in 2022, University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers was awarded the prestigious Magnet status designation. Less than 10 percent of U.S. hospitals earn the coveted honor, given to organizations that meet rigorous standards for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. In December 2024, Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital received a Level IV Maternal Levels of Care designation from the Joint Commission — the highest possible level. Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital is the first Level IV designated hospital in Michigan and the second hospital in the state to undergo this rigorous verification process.
